We recommend that you call ahead to check opening times and during peak season make reservations to avoid disappointment.
Coffee and cake
There’s nothing we love more than a day in the great outdoors followed by great coffee and cake. Here are a few of our local cafe favourites….
In Kingussie, enjoy homemade baking from The Sugar Bowl or an ice cream from Cafe Aroma. If you are out and about on a day trip to Newtonmore, the Wild Flour Cafe is a good lunch spot with a lovely secluded garden. In Laggan you will find the newly opened Laggan Stores with great homemade cakes. They are now taking bookings for theme nights (find out more on their Facebook page). If you are biking at Wolftrax pop in for a well deserved snack at the cafe and support this local social enterprise. Head north to Aviemore and no trip is complete without a trip to The Mountain Cafe. Its cakes are legendary. You will have to wait. It will be worth the wait (top tip: you can do take away soup and cake).
For relaxed pub grub there’s the Tipsy Laird, McInnes House Hotel and the Duke of Gordon in town. The Cafe Bistro is popular amongst to locals and The Cross offers fine dining featuring Scottish produce.

You are on holiday!
There are a couple of fish and chip shops in town - we love the sweet potato fries from Joe’s. There’s also a chinese takeaway and if you like curry we recommend Mehmood’s in Newtonmore (where you can also sit in). You’ll find menus in the house to tempt you!
